MSC Cruise - Things to know before you go

 
Q : Where can I keep my valuables?
A : You are advised to use the complimentary safes available in your stateroom for your jewelry and other valuables.
MSC cannot be held responsible for the loss of valuables.
   
Q : What should I pack? And what about a dress code?
A : It is recommended that you bring along lightweight, "resort casual" clothing - including a swimsuit with cover-up, comfortable rubber-soled sandals or deck shoes to wear poolside, and walking shoes for shoes trips. If you like to exercise or participate in sports, bring any fitness clothing and footwear you may need. A hat or visor is recommended for sun protection.
For evenings, resort casual is also appropriate (no jeans, T-shirt, shorts, or bare feet, please after 6pm on the ship).
For formal evenings, cocktail dresses for women and suits or jacket and ties for men are appropriate (1 formal on 4 to 6 night cruises ; 2 formals on 7 - 10 night cruises; 3 formals on 11 - 14 night cruises, and 4 on 15 night or longer cruises).
Be sure to pack all items of importance, such as tickets, passports, medicines, and jewelry, in a separate carry-on bag. On the last evening of your cruise, your luggage will be collected for disembarkation the following morning. You will want to pack a separate overnight bag to accommodate your last evening's clothes and toiletries to carry off the ship with you.
   
Q : What documents are required?
A : Guests must be in possession of a valid passport which has 6 months validity before the departure date and any visas for boarding the ship in the country in which they embark. Please note that you are responsible for securing the necessary visas and immunizations.
   
Q : Do I need any vaccinations?
A : It is recommended that passengers discuss their plans with their doctor or health-care professional prior to departure to ensure they are fit to travel. Inoculations are often recommended but in certain conditions they are required. The World Health Organization (WHO) (www.who.int/vaccines-diseases) provides guidelines on the vaccinations necessary for each country.
Passengers cruising to Brazil may require an entry visa and/or vaccination against yellow fever. Please note that this information is subject to change by the Brazilian Authorities without notice, so we suggest that passengers contact the Brazilian embassy or consulate in their own countries to check the latest information.
   
Q : Can I take a cruise if I'm pregnant?
A : Women who are no more that 28 weeks' pregnant by the end of the cruise may cruise with us on presentation of a medical certificate stating they are fit to travel.
   
Q : Can I smoke?
A : Smoking is only permitted in the designated Smoking Areas and on the open decks. Smoking is not allowed in the dining rooms.
   
Q : Can visitors come onboard?
A : Unfortunately, due to safety and security reasons, visitors are not allowed on the ships.
   
Q : What if I lose something on the ship?
A : Passengers who have lost personal items onboard should ask the Information Office if their property has been found. If passengers find unattended items, they are kindly requested to take them to the information Office. MSC is not responsible for personal items lost on the ship.
   
Q : Are there Wi-Fi connections onboard?
A : A Wi-Fi card is available onboard the MSC Lirica, MSC Opera, MSC Musica and MSC Monterey (and soon on all ship) and enables wireless Internet connection in certain areas of the ship displaying the sign "MSC Hot Spot Wi-Fi Area". Wi-Fi connection is available in most common areas of the ships. All you need is a prepare MSC Wi-Fi card that will enable your laptop to access the service.
Configuration and Activation : Your MSC Wi-Fi card is already active and ready for use. All you have to do is reach a designated area and open your browser. The system automatically connects you to the MSC Wi-Fi portal. Insert your Username and Password (provided on paper). Remember, you can buy the card from the information Office. Prices are USD$42 for 1 hour and USD$65 for 2 hours for Caribbean and South America cruises. For Mediterranean cruises, prices are Euro 20 for 1 hour, and Euro 36 for 2 hours.
Conations : The service is made possible by means of a shared bandwidth satellite connection. For this reason, the service may be slower during peak usage times. Any unused credit cannot be refunded, and the card will be automatically cancelled at the end of the cruise.
   
Q : Do you offer cellular service onboard?
A : Cellular service is currently available on MSC Opera, MSC Lirica, MSC Lirica, MSC Musica and MSC Monterey. We are in the process of rolling out this services to the other vessels in our fleet.
   
Q : What are the boarding formalities?
A : Boarding begins around noon in most ports and you should be onboard no later than two hours before the ship's scheduled departure time. Luggage tags are provided in your cruise ticket documentation or at the port of embarkation. Please fill out all of the necessary information on these tags, including the name of your ship, and attach them to each price of luggage, including any carry-on. During check-in you will be asked to provide all of the necessary travel documentation. If you do not have all of the proper travel documentation, you may not board the ship.
Should you wish to alter your dining time, please consult with the maitre d'upoh boarding the ship.

Q : Is it safe for my children to stay in a Balcony cabin?
A : Yes, our balcony cabin comes with high plastic panel and wooden railing. Moreover, there is a glass door with a safety gadget to prevent children from gaining access to the balcony area.
   
Q : How many kids can I bring?
A : For each cabin, a maximum of 2 children below 12 years gets to cruise free with 2 full-fare paying adults.
   
Q : What will I receive on my birthday?
A : The birthday treat varies from month to month. You will also enjoy special treats and activities during your birthday and school holidays.
   
Q : What is the validity of the StarKids Membership?
A : The StarKids Membership is valid till the child reaches 12 years old.
   
Q : How much does it cost for the StarKids Membership application?
A : A one-time S$10 administrative fee applies upon the approval of the application.
   
18. What is the validity of the Free Cruise voucher?
  The Free Cruise voucher is valid for one year from the date of issue or till membership expires, whichever is earlier, and is non-transferable.
   
19. How much is the annual membership fee?
  There is no need to pay annual membership fee.
   
20. Who should I contact to report loss for starKids membership card?

21. What is the replacement cost for lost / stolen membership card?
  A S$10 replacement fee applies for lost / stolen membership card.

26. How do we find out about ongoing promotions and special offers by Star Cruises?
